Interview with Florence Pearson

“Nuair a bha i òg…” 🙂

Click to listen >  Interview with Florence Pearson

florence bFlorence, artist and  craft maker living in North Uist,  shares how she came to live on the islands, her choice to settle here, how she experienced her childhood and teenage years and how things have changed in a few decades (like shops which don’t exist any more or how she would walk two miles to the only phone box….).

A comment, received today:  “The shop in Lochmaddy run by the “old boy” sounds like Angus’s – he sold everything, nothing had a price sticker on it but Angus knew the price without hesitation. That smell of comics could have been mingled with mouse droppings too. 😀 Angus’s greeting phrase was nearly always “i fuar” as he rubbed his hands together. I remember the Wee-Havitt shop too, owned by the Procurator Fiscal, I think.”
